PARDESTerms of service
By installing the app or using this website you agree to these terms. They are short because the service is simple: a library, a daily explanation, a study partner, and a promise about where the money goes.
The service
PARDES gives you the texts of the Jewish library with their classical commentaries, an explanation of the day's page of Talmud at three levels, narration, plans, and a study partner that answers questions from the page. The free tier ("Reuven") is the whole app with an ad between pages. Paid tiers remove the ads and add more of the machine. What each tier includes is described on the home page and in the app, and may change; we will not remove something you have paid for during a period you have paid for.
Accounts
No account is needed to read. If you sign in with Google or Facebook you are responsible for that account, and you agree that the name and email it provides are yours to use. You can delete your account at any time from Me, or by writing to privacy@mypardes.org.
Payments, subscriptions and refunds
Subscriptions are billed by Apple or Google through the app store you installed from, and renew monthly or yearly until you cancel in that store's subscription settings. Dedications and sponsorships are one-time purchases. Refunds follow the store's policy; where we bill directly through Stripe, write to us within 14 days of a charge and we will refund it. Prices are shown in the app before you buy and may change with notice for future periods.
Half of every payment goes to yeshivot and study halls. This is a public commitment by Tarayants Consulting, accounted for on Where the money goes every month. Until a registered charity stands behind it, a payment to PARDES is a purchase of a service, not a donation, and is not tax-deductible.
The texts, and what you may do with them
The Talmud, Mishnah, Tanakh and their classical commentaries are the heritage of everyone. Many of the digital editions in the app come from Sefaria and other publishers under Creative Commons licences, some of them non-commercial (for example the William Davidson Edition and the Steinsaltz commentary, CC BY-NC); each edition and its licence is listed in the app under Texts and credits. You may read, quote and share them under those licences. You may not resell them, strip their attribution, or use the app's data to build a competing commercial product.
The explanations, narration, videos and design that we produce are ours (or licensed to us). You may share them freely with attribution to PARDES for non-commercial purposes. Anything you write in the app (notes, questions) remains yours; you give us a licence to store it for you and, for questions, to use it to improve the explanations.
The explanations and the study partner
The daily explanations and the study partner's answers are drafted with AI tools from the page and its commentaries. Every quotation is verified against the source text by code before it is published, and the study partner is built to cite what it relies on or to say that it does not know. It can still be wrong. Nothing in the app is a halachic ruling (a psak); for questions of practice, ask a rabbi you trust. If you find a mistake, tell us and we will fix it in public.
Acceptable use
Do not use the service to break the law, to harass anyone, to scrape or bulk-download the library, to reverse-engineer the app, or to interfere with other people's use. Do not use the study partner to generate content that misrepresents the texts as saying what they do not say. We may suspend accounts that do.
Ads
The free tier shows ads under a written allowlist (see the privacy policy). We do not endorse advertisers. Paid tiers have no ads.
Shabbat and Yom Tov
The app goes quiet from candle lighting to havdalah according to the location you set. You can still read; nothing pushes and nothing sells. This is a feature, not a limitation of the service.
What we do not promise
The service is provided as is. We do not promise that it is free of errors, that it will always be available, or that a given text or feature will remain forever. To the extent the law allows, Tarayants Consulting is not liable for indirect or consequential loss, and our total liability to you is limited to what you paid us in the twelve months before the claim. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
Ending things
You can stop using the service at any time and delete your account. We may end or change the service with reasonable notice, refunding any unused paid period.
Law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Israel, and disputes go to the competent courts in Tel Aviv, Israel, unless the law where you live gives you rights that cannot be waived. If any part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest stands.
Changes and contact
We may update these terms; the date at the top changes, and material changes are announced in the app. The current version is always at mypardes.org/en/terms/; the Hebrew version is at /il/terms/, and if they differ the English governs. Questions: privacy@mypardes.org.
